Sketches

A study of O’Callahan’s drawings or sketches allows an intimate glimpse of his personality and free style. His drawings are powerful and expressionistic, and honestly reveals the impact and strong influence the modern European ideas had on him. Through these, we see his love of female beauty and sensuality, his love of life and his sense of humor.

A critic from the New York Herald in Paris describes O’Callahan’s style as a simple and unobtrusive search for freshness, “… his process of simplification is not so much an elimination of detail as the putting down of that which registered most naturally and unforcedly to the painter’s eye.”
